Editorial Guidelines: Testing Standards & Campus Verification

Last Updated: September 2026

Every guide on this site is written with one standard: would a student dealing with a frustrating campus tech snag or dorm move-in issue trust this information to solve their problem immediately? If the answer is not clearly yes, it does not get published. These guidelines define how we research, test, write, and maintain our guides.

1. Direct Testing & Primary Verification

Every guide is researched and tested directly against real hardware and software configurations: university IT device registration portals (ClearPass, Aruba, Cisco ISE), console network operating systems (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), email transport rules, and standard residence hall safety regulations.

We do not rely on second-hand aggregator blogs or unverified forum hearsay. Where we explain a specific setting, port number, or troubleshooting sequence, we verify the exact steps on actual device menus.

2. Who Reviews Content

All articles are reviewed by Mack Morris, a campus residential life and student tech contributor with an M.S. in Student Affairs Counseling from Troy University. He specializes in residence hall onboarding, campus network troubleshooting, student software perks, and residential operations. His review covers factual accuracy, device compatibility, and practical usability for college students.

No guide is published without passing internal verification for clarity, safety, and compliance with campus policies.

3. Update Policy

Campus network security, console firmware, and student discount verification workflows update regularly. We follow a structured update schedule:

  • Intake review: Core dorm setup, Wi-Fi connectivity, and student discount guides are systematically reviewed ahead of major Fall (August) and Spring (January) campus move-in cycles.
  • Firmware & OS updates: When major console firmware (PlayStation, Switch, Xbox) or desktop operating systems (Windows 11, macOS) update, network troubleshooting steps are re-tested and refreshed.
  • Date tracking: Every article displays its publication date and its most recent update date in the article header and in structured data (schema.org dateModified).

4. Error Correction Policy

If a step or setting changes due to a software update or university policy modification, we correct it immediately and update the article's modified date. We do not quietly edit articles without tracking updates.

If you spot an error or have an updated workaround for your campus, contact us via our contact page. We review reader feedback within 2 business days.

5. What We Do Not Publish

  • Methods that violate university Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) or compromise campus network security
  • Techniques that breach residence hall fire codes or cause property damage to dorm walls and appliances
  • Unverified hacks or obsolete configuration workarounds

6. Editorial Integrity

While we may earn affiliate commissions on products we test and recommend (such as heavy-duty mounting strips, cables, or adapters), our recommendations are determined solely by what is durable, compliant, and cost-effective for students. Editorial content is never dictated by sponsor partnerships.
